OBITUARY Elizabeth Brandon February 28, 1921 – November 26, 2018 Elizabeth Brandon, better known as MeeMommy and Grandmother by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren passed away at 8:07PM on Monday, November 26, 2018 at her home surrounded by her children at the age of 97. Elizabeth was a homemaker and a substitute teacher with Ascension Parish School Board for more than 20 years. She was designated as the first lifetime member of the Gonzales Garden Club.
She was born in Egan, Texas to the union of John and Bessie Harrison on February 28, 1921. Elizabeth was very involved in 4-H and became the lone star state of Texas’s number 1 4-H club girl. She was awarded a college scholarship given each year by the Texas Home Demonstration Association in 1938.
Because of this honor, Elizabeth was awarded a trip to the National 4-H Club Encampment in Washington, DC. This was quite an honor for her. She gave a speech while in Washington, DC which the President’s wife, Eleanor Roosevelt attended.
Elizabeth accepted Christ as her savior at the age of 14. She has been a member of First Baptist Church in Gonzales, LA ever since 1957. Elizabeth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Barbara Brandon, Larry and Sue Brandon, Mark and Kay Brandon; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Steve Ellender; grandchildren, Kerry Brandon, Barry Brandon, Sherry Terrill, Tim Brandon, Kim Cash, Crystal Wilkinson, Adam Brandon, Stacy Hines, Tracy Gautreau, Abby Ellender; great grandchildren, Kendall Brandon, Kayley Brandon, Kolleen Brandon, Kinsey Brandon, Kyle Brandon, Karson Brandon, Kaden Brandon, Kolby Brandon, Justin Terrill, Ashley Terrill, Kohl Brandon, Kade Brandon, Kiley Brandon, Clare Tarver, Cooper Cash, Carter Cash, Jaxon Wilkinson, Ainsley Hines, Christian Gautreau, Landon Gautreau and Hunter Gautreau.
She is preceded in death by her husband Verdell Brandon, the love of her life for over 70 years; her parents, John and Bessie Harrison; one brother, E. J. Harrison, Jr. and one sister, Niree Forrest and other relatives. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, 1217 S. Burnside Ave, Gonzales, on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 9AM until service at 11AM, celebrated by Brother James B. Law. Interment will follow at Hope Haven on Hwy 30 in Gonzales.
