ELIZABETH’s Obituary Betty Flood Dixon passed away February 12, 2019 in Vero Beach, FL where she had lived for 20 years. A proud native Miamian, she was born November 10, 1926 to Bess Williamson Flood and James Emerson Flood. She graduated from Miami High School and attended Boston University.

She met Orville W. (Dick) Dixon, a CPA, and they were married in Miami in 1948 (he called her Betsy). They raised three daughters, Susan, Beth and Patricia. They were married 56 years at the time of Dick’s death in 2004.

They were members of Shenandoah Presbyterian Church. She worked as a legal secretary, as a secretary at an accounting firm, and assisted Dick in his business. Betty had some memorable life experiences including representing Miami at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. at the age of 13; being selected as a young woman to ride on the Pan American Airlines float in the Orange Bowl Parade; and working at a company on the bank of the Miami River where the banana boats would dock.

She was an expert at spelling, grammar, and even used shorthand for most of her life – and never cared much for bananas! She loved anything pink, cake, and always enjoyed eating out. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Dick, and a son-in-law Barry Gladden.

She is survived by her daughters Susan White (David), Elizabeth Gladden, and Patricia Shaw (Tony Berni); grandchildren Scott White (Megan), Pam Wells (Kyle), Jonathan White, Laura White, and Brian Gladden. She also had eight great-grandchildren, Lilli, Olivia, Benaiah, Niamh, David, Ezra, Matthew, and Levi. She is now in her heavenly home.

She was loved and will be missed by all. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life”. John 3:16 A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 17th at Woodlawn Cemetery on SW 8th street in Miami.
