Mrs. Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Cole) Ungvarsky, 79, a resident of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, entered into eternal life peacefully in the presence of her family and in the comfort of her home Tuesday, New Year’s Day, following a recent illness. Born May 7, 1939 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Bond) Cole. Educated in the city schools, she attended the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Mrs. Ungvarsky previously worked as a seamstress for the former Carter Footwear Company of Wilkes-Barre. She also assisted her brother John in the family business, the Leisure Tavern on North Pennsylvania Avenue as a cook and bartender. Most recently, Betty is remembered as being a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother who served as her husband’s caregiver during his prior illness.

She also cared for several neighborhood children serving as babysitter. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed playing bingo at local churches and social events. She held membership with the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Joseph F.R. Ungvarsky Sr. on February 14, 2014. Sadly, the couple experienced the loss of their only daughter, Betty Jo Ungvarsky on March 7, 2001. She was also preceded by several brothers and sisters.

Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Joseph M. Ungvarsky at home and Scott A. Ungvarsky and his companion Monica of Shickshinny; Grandchildren, including Joseph, Emily, Scott, Matthew, Bryce, Cole, Ethan, Brandon and Luke; Sister, Janice Cole-Jones of Toms River, NJ; Brothers Robert “Bob” Cole and his wife Pat of Forty-Fort and James “Jim” Cole of Sweet Valley; Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Relatives and friends may join Betty’s family for visitation and remembrances Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street. The Liturgy of the Word will be shared at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor, serving as celebrant.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of Betty Lou’s family in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.
