Mrs. Theresa (Borowski) Kovalik, 85, a resident of Johnson Street in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord Saturday evening in the care of HCR Manor Care, Second Avenue, Kingston, following a recent illness. Born March 26, 1933 in Nanticoke, she was a daughter to the late Benjamin and Helen (Gillis) Borowski. She was educated in the Nanticoke schools.

Following her marriage, she and her late husband settled in North Wilkes-Barre and were members of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre, where she previously was active in various parish affairs. Mrs. Kovalik worked several jobs to assist the family. Most notably , she could be seen at the counter of Dunkin Donuts’ East End location, serving countless patrons who would stop by for their morning coffee or pastry to start their day, always greeted with a smile and some light conversation before heading off to work.

During voting seasons, she worked at several polling stations for several years as a judge of elections. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. George Kovalik Sr. on August 16, 1983. At the time of his passing, the couple shared some twenty-four years of married life together.

She also lost a sister, Mrs. Angeline Shubinski several years ago. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mr. George Kovalik Jr. and his wife Lynda of Mooisic; Daughter Miss Ann Marie Kovalik of Nanticoke. Grandchildren, Ashley Gilio and her husband Steven of Queens Borough, New York City and Nick Kovalik of Clarks Green; Great-granddaughter, Noralyn Gilio; A sister, Mrs. Eleanor Supchak and her husband Leonard of Virginia; Several nieces, nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends.

Per Mrs. Kovalik’s prior request, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of her family with inurnment next to her husband in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas. The Reverend Michael Kerestes, her pastor, assisted by Sisters Regina and Theodosia, O.S.B., as cantors will serve as leaders for the Rite of Committal. The John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc. of Wilkes-Barre are honored to care for Mrs. Kovalik and her family at this time.
