Elmer’s Obituary STEELEVILLE – Elmer J. Shemonic, 88, of Steeleville, passed away at 8:47 am, Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Manor Craig Farm, Chester. Elmer was born in Rockwood, Illinois, on October 19, 1930, the son of John and Saddie Harmon Shemonic. He married Lela Mae Eggemeyer on November 2, 1952 at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville.

Elmer was the co-owner and operator of Shemonic Brothers in Steeleville for over 60 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Elmer was a participant of the April 2018 Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville; B.B.K. American Legion Post #480, Steeleville and Kaskaskia VFW Post #3553, Chester. Elmer is survived by his wife, Lela Mae Shemonic of Steeleville; children, Donald (Linda) Shemonic of Franklin, TN, David (Lisa) Shemonic of Rockwood, Cindy (Gary) Vaughan of Ball Ground, GA and Christine (Eric) Brown of Pflugerville, TX; five grandchildren, Grant, Amy, Kelly, Lochan and John; five great grandchildren, Collen, Brayden, Anna, Kaden and Lana; and brother, Roger Shemonic of Steeleville. Elmer was preceded in death by his Parents; son, Ronald; daughter, Nancy; grandsons, Cody, Tyler and Adam; great granddaughter, Allysa.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville with Minister Deb Rathert officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm Wednesday and on Thursday from 7:30 am until 9 am then from 10 am until 11 am at the church.

Memorials may be given to Honor Flight of Southern Illinois or the American Red Cross in the form of a monetary donation or blood donation in his memory.
