Elsie Ellen Doty, 94, formerly of Champaign, passed away at 11:39 am on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Country Health Care and Rehab, Gifford. There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 19 from 5-7 pm at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St, Champaign. The funeral service will be on Friday, July 20 at 10 am at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Mack officiating.

Burial will at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. She was the beloved mother of 5 children; Lynn (Robert) Lee of Glen Allen, VA, Rea (Jim) Knight of St. Joseph, Patricia ‘Patty’ (Michael) Reid of Apache Junction, AZ, Gregory ‘Bob’ (Michelle) Doty of Champaign and Kathie (Mark Coomes) Doty of North Port, FL, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. All survive.

Also surviving are 1 sister, Earna Lee (Emil) Beals of Effingham; 1 sister-in-law Elizabeth Campbell of Godfrey and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Doty; her parents, James and Pearl Campbell and 5 brothers. Before Elsie took on her most treasured career as a full time wife, mother and homemaker, her career included positions with Illinois Central Railroad and the federal government in Washington, D.C.

She enjoyed music, all types of sewing and needlework. She also enjoyed bowling, was an avid reader and a member of Friends of the Library for many years. She especially enjoyed English literature and history, which culminated in a trip to England.

She was a “hands-on” mother and grandmother, taking great pleasure in her family. Her grandchildren have many memories of games played and time spent with Grandma. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or an organization of the donor’s choice.
