Lee Coble died on July 3, 2018, in Mahomet at the age of 86. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Jane Coble, of Mahomet; three children, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his brother, four nephews, one niece, and their families. A graveside service will be held on August 4, 2018 at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 2731 Comanche St., Corpus Christi, Texas 78408.
The couple’s daughter, Brenda Lindsey, and her husband Tim live in Mahomet. Their son Kenneth Coble lives in Augusta, Georgia. Their son, Randy Coble, lives in Rochester, Michigan, with his wife Carolyn and their daughter Reese.
Brenda and Tim’s son Craig lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife Juli. Brenda and Tim’s son Danny lives in Tinley Park, Illinois, with his wife Bonnie and their daughter Maise Lee Lindsey. Lee’s brother Hugh Coble lives in Sedona, Arizona.
His nephews, niece and their families live across the United States. Lee was born on Feb. 26, 1932, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, to John Leroy Coble, Sr., and his wife, Victoria Nielsen Coble.
He earned his high school diploma from Hopewell High School, his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his master’s degree from Southern Methodist University. A proud United States Marine, he served eight years on active duty and eight more years in the Reserve as a fighter pilot and flight instructor. He developed a love for aviation in his childhood that lasted throughout his life.
He also loved automobiles, which led him to a 33-year career with Ford Motor Company, the last several years working as a senior manager in the Quality Engineering department. Lee and Jane met when he was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas. They married on Valentine’s Day a little over two months after they met and enjoyed life together as husband and wife for more than 61 years.
They and their three children experienced life in many different places thanks to multiple transfers during Lee’s time with the Marine Corps and Ford Motor Company. Throughout his life he gave generously of his time and talents in the service of others, particularly after he and Jane began their retirement in 1995. Together they supported many worthy causes benefiting their church and a variety of military, veteran and community organizations.
Lee and Jane enjoyed life in Texas for 23 years, first in Canyon Lake near Austin and later in Corpus Christi – living just a few miles from where they first met in 1956. Lee’s health concerns necessitated their move to Mahomet to be close to family. Lee was a man of strong faith, hard work and deep love for God, his family and friends, his country, the Marine Corps, planes, cars and his beloved Texas sports teams.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a role model, a standard-setter and a leader. His life has made a lasting impact on those who knew and loved him.
