Obituary for Elsie Johnson Elsie (Restemayer) Johnson 89, formerly of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on October 29, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Lenexa, Ks. She moved to Kansas in January of 2016 to be closer to family. Elsie was born March 1, 1929 in Cavalier, ND, the daughter of Norman and Josephine (Staldt) Restemayer.

She attended country school, graduated from Cavalier High School in 1946 and Aaker’s Business College in 1947. On September 24, 1948 she married Harold Johnson at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks where she remained a member for 70 years. In 1950 she began working in bookkeeping for Red River National Bank and progressed to head teller.

In 1974 she was promoted as the first female executive officer in the bank’s history and managed the branch bank till her retirement as vice-president 1985. She then embarked on a successful 30-year real-estate career and retiring from Crary Real Estate in 2016. It was said she sold a house to everyone in town.

Elsie was active in the community, belonging to Quota Intl, PEO and multiple other service organizations. She volunteered for SCORE and served on the board of United Lutheran Church and the Grand Fork Senior Center. She was most proud of being Regional Governor of Quota.

Elsie enjoyed playing cards and loved to dance. She is survived by her daughter Merilynn Hovell, granddaughter Laurel Bartlett, great-grand daughter Megan Bartlett, and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, and sisters Phyllis Thomson, and Ruth Doebler.
