Obituary for MARILYN JOAN HOFFMAN Marilyn Joan Hoffman, of Overland Park, KS, was born on September 8, 1938, and died on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Funeral services followed by burial will begin at 11:00am on Thursday, November 8, in the Yukon Chapel at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 5529 Ditzler Ave, Raytown, MO 64133. Marilyn was born to the late Max and Mildred Billig, in Long Island, NY. Her family moved to Miami Beach, FL in 1954, and she graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1956. She was married to the late Arthur W. Hoffman in 1956, and was a lifelong Kansas City area resident.

Marilyn was an Executive Administrator for Gentiva Health Services as well as Sprint in Overland Park. Upon retiring from Sprint her greatest enjoyment were years heading the surgery reception desk at Menorah Hospital. Her sincere caring support and reassurance to those facing surgery and their families brought her great pleasure and thanks from many including the Medical staff.

She was an active member of Beth Shalom and The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah. She had many creative talents including gardening, playing piano, ping pong, card games, and was an avid tennis player. One of her greatest accomplishments was her artistic ability to paint portraits of famous people in oil and charcoal.

She was commissioned by the Hebrew Academy to paint the portrait of founder Hyman Brand which is on display to this day. Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara D. Hoffman. She is survived by her son, Stuart D. Hoffman of Dallas, TX; her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and David Bernstein of Baltimore, MD; nieces, Carolyn Petite of St. Louis, MO and Laurie Boulahbab of Mill Valley, CA; nephew, Jeffrey Bernstein of Menlo Park, CA; and close personal friend and companion Paul Wacknov of Leawood, KS.
