OBITUARY Elvira Garcia Perez February 25, 1946 – September 14, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Elvira (Vera) Garcia Perez, age 72, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018, surrounded by family at home. Vera will be remembered for her outgoing personality, larger than life smile and loving nature. Vera was born in Austin, Texas on February 25, 1946, to Salvador (Sam) and Maria Garcia.
She met, fell in love and married her husband of 54 years, Eulalio (Lalo) Cortez Perez on May 16, 1964. After 10 years of marriage, they welcomed their son William Garcia Perez on February 14, 1974. Their daughter, Monica Garcia Velez, followed six years later, on December 25, 1979.
The family of four made their home in Round Rock, Texas close to family and friends. Vera worked for the school district for more than 20 years, nurturing her love of children, while also managing Lalo’s landscaping business. She loved to sew, making lots of different clothing and household goods, but her favorite was sewing for her daughter.
She also enjoyed crocheting – filling her home with countless doilies for each season. She lived for her children and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock, Texas.
You could find Vera and Lalo each Sunday in the same pew at the 11:30 a.m. Mass. Vera is survived by her husband, Lalo Perez, and two children and their spouses: William Perez and wife Jessica, Monica Velez and husband Erik; as well as her beloved grandchildren: Elias Andrés Velez and a granddaughter who is expected to arrive in November. She is preceded in death by her grandchild Andrés Thiago Velez.
Vera was diagnosed with bladder cancer in November 2013 – fighting the good fight every day since her diagnosis. Her positive attitude, trust in the Lord, and the support from her family and friends provided the strength she needed to fight for 5 long years. The visitation will be Tuesday, September 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas with the Recitation of the Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock, Texas, followed by graveside service at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas, with a reception to follow.
