Emily is survived by her parents, Tamara (Jim) MacDuff & Ronald Short, Jr.; brothers, Nick MacDuff & Ben (Erika Schipper) Short; sisters, Amanda Perry & Emily MacDuff; grandparents, David Crawford, David (Katherine) MacDuff & Ron (Darlene) Short, Sr.; aunts, Connie (Jay) Johnson, Lisa (Val) Oleson, Jonelle Pitts; uncles, Chad (Patti) Crawford, Michael VanAs, Michael MacDuff, Daniel (Tina) Short; nieces, Nimue (Nimi) Fillmore & Juno Tessaro; nephew, Jacoby Almeter; cousins, Joscelyn Crawford, Declan Crawford, Anthony Gunther, Katie Short, Lauren Short, Sarah Short, Sammy Oleson, Jill Oleson, Rebecca Johnson & Amanda Johnson, Zeke Pitts; great-aunts, Susan Crawford, Pat Kaseman, Marian (John) Toth; great-uncle Ronald (Connie) Bottoni; many other family & friends. Emily was a bright light in everyone’s life.

She lived, loved & laughed her way through her challenges. If you met Emily, you loved her; and she loved you. Due to her disability, we were told by doctors that she would never walk.

She could not be stopped. She not only walked, she skied, ran track events at the Camp Smile Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged in Brockport, where she won many Gold Medals, she was a cheerleader for the Webster Wildcats and enjoyed hiking in the Adirondacks, especially climbing Bald Mountain when others were concerned she would not be able to. Mountains could not stop Emily, her braces did not stop her.

Her disability did not define her, and she constantly challenged herself by never taking the easy way out. She insisted on doing things other kids do and then some. She understood her disability and she made decisions based on the amount of effort she would have to expend; not the fact she wore leg braces.

She helped everyone she could, always putting others before herself. Please join the family for Emily’s visitation on Sunday, September 9th, 3-6 PM at Crawford Funeral Home, 495 N. Winton Rd (between Atlantic & Humboldt Streets). Her Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 10th, 10 AM at Asbury First United Methodist Church (1050 East Ave, Rochester).

In lieu of flowers, please honor Emily with a donation to Camp Smile Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged, 350 New Campus Drive, Tuttle North B223B, Brockport, NY 14420-2993. Make checks payable to Camp Smile Empire State Games. In Emily’s memory and to honor her, always let your light shine for others and don’t let your challenges or mistakes define you.

Live, Love and Laugh always and in all ways in your life.
