Mr. Eric Joseph Yakabovicz, 24, a resident of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed unexpectedly into Eternal Life Wednesday evening at the family residence. Born March 28, 1994 in the former Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston, he was the only son to Eugene “Whitey” and Angela “Angie” (Martin) Yakabovicz, North Wilkes-Barre. Educated in the city schools, Eric was a member of the 2012 graduating class from the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
He was employed in the local construction industry as a mason in the Wyoming Valley. He was a member of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre, and held membership in the North End Slovak Citizens Club. In his spare time, Eric loved billiards and played on several local leagues.
Enjoying the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and fisherman who shared his talents by even teaching his sisters how to fish. Keeping active, he also enjoyed golfing and occasionally ran in several races with his father. Of all the things he held dear in this life, his favorite events were times spent with his family over the years.
He loved having family get-togethers for dinner and even “challenging” his sisters on a variety of topics. His favorite team will always be the Green Bay Packers. Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mr. Lawrence (Larry) Martin in 2013; by his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Andrea (Evans) Yakabovicz in 2015 and by his maternal Uncle Michael Martin.
Left to lovingly hold his memory dear in addition to his parents Whitey and Angie Yakabovicz at home are his sisters, Christina Yakabovicz and her companion Ian Dunsmuir of West Wyoming, Brittany Walter and her husband Philip of Dallas and Melissa Yakabovicz and her compantion, Jimmy Kuchinski of Wilkes-Barre; Nephew, Mattis Walter; Maternal grandmom, Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Martin of Plains Township; Paternal grandpop, Mr. Joseph Yakabovicz, Tarpon Springs, FL; his godparents, Mr. Michael Syms of Plains and Ms. Terry Martin of Nanticoke; Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved dog, Boomer. Funeral services for Eric will be conducted on Monday at 9:30 a.m. with prayer from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street. The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, his pastor will serve as celebrant and homilist.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot of Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cemetery Street, Plains Township. Relatives and friends may join Eric’s family for visitation and shared remembrances Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
