Ernestine Nutter was born July 1, 1918 and passed away at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas on May 3, 2018 at the age of 99. She was born at home in Grant Township, Republic County, to Harry Gilles and Pearl Gilles. She graduated from the Agenda High School in 1935.

On November 19, 1935, she was united in marriage to Cecil N. Nutter in Clay Center, Kansas. Ernestine was a very active partner in their farming operation. She and Cecil enjoyed traveling and, upon retirement, took many trips together, spending several winters in New Mexico.

To this union three children were born: Imogene, Charles and Marlene. She is survived by one daughter, Imogene Rouse, and her son Charles and daughter-in-law Shirley Nutter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Marlene, and her two sisters, Isabelle and Katherine.

She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 26 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. She also will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Ernestine’s wish was for immediate cremation.

There will be no visitation or service at this time. A family gathering at Union Cemetery south of Wayne is planned for later this summer to bury Ernestine’s cremains next to Cecil. Funeral arrangements by Nutter Mortuary 116 E 6th Street, Concordia, Kansas 66901.
