Milton, NC – It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Ms. Essie Mae Thaxton Hughes of 4527 Yarborough Mills Rd. Milton, NC, who passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018 at her residence. She was a native of Caswell County, NC the daughter of the late Willie Claude Thaxton and Annie Clayborne Thaxton, Born November 6, 1934.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she was President of the usher board and vice president of the missionary. She was preceded in death by one sister, Hannah Thaxton; and one grandson.

Her survivors are two daughters, Deborah Johnson of Yanceyville, NC and Vanessa Venable ( Huston ) of Halifax, Va. ; four sons, Ellis Hughes ( Sandra ) of Danville, Va. , Keith Hughes ( Brenda ) of Milton, NC, Van Donnell Hughes ( Arlene ) of Raleigh, NC and Charles Hughes ( Daisy ) of Roxboro, NC; one sister, Rena Bell Thaxton Scott of Summerset, New Jersey; two brothers, William Thaxton of New Jersey and Oscar Crisp of Danville, Va.

; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great- great grandchild; a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
