Ethel F Sharsmitt Proulx , June 27, 1923 — March 01, 2019

Ethel F. (Sharsmitt) Proulx, 95, of Methuen passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Nevins Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Methuen. The daughter of the late Edward and Pearl (Worcester) Sharsmitt, Ethel was born in Methuen on June 27, 1923. She graduated from Searles High School in Methuen and attended MacIntosh School of Business, where she earned an Associate’s degree.

She was employed for many years by Treat Hardward in Lawrence, before raising her family. Later on, she went to work as a bookkeeper for Watts Regulator Company in Lawrence, where she retired in 1989. She married her husband Ray on October 4, 1952, and was a lifelong resident of Methuen.

Until 2017, she was an attendee and active participant on the High School Reunion Committee. Both Ethel and Ray were active members on the Lawrence Ski Club, Bartlett, NH, for many, many years. Ethel was an active member of the Methuen Historical Society, and the First United Methodist Church Choir.

Ethel was a very social person and had a large circle of friends throughout her life. She was always the organizer and hostess of family gatherings for holidays and special events. Ethel is survived by her husband of 67 years, Raymond (Ray) Proulx of Methuen; Daughters, Nancy Lavoie and her husband Frank of Methuen, and Susan Dube and Michael Muldoon of Lowell; Grandchildren, Danielle and Kris Lavoie, and a great-grandson, Jacob Lavoie.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visit with family on Saturday, March 9, 2019, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A service will follow at 1:00 PM.
