Ethel Lorine Slabaugh, 90, of Emmett, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at a Boise Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. The family will receive friends on Sunday June 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel.

Lorine was born on August 8, 1927 in Tekamah, Nebraska to Daniel and Arline (Smith) Pound the fourth of five children. The family moved to Emmett, Idaho when she was fourteen years-old. Her future husband, Willard, came home from serving in Italy in November of 1945.

He attended one semester at the College of Idaho from February to May 1946. During an illness, Willard entered the hospital in Emmett on July 4, 1946. He met Lorine, a cute little nurse’s aide.

They started dating. They shook hands not to get serious. He wanted to finish college and then go to New York Photography School.

She wanted to further her education as a social worker. They were married December 21, 1947. Willard never went to photography school and Lorine finished her degree as in education years later three years ahead of their oldest son, Gerry.

Lorine and Willard loved their children and their Lord. They were active in their church. Lorine taught Sunday school starting at the age of 16.

With the other mothers in the church, she started a Cub Scout Pack. For many years she was involved with the Easter Tableau, Christmas Live Nativity Scene and other Christian work. Even though her father only had a fourth grade education and her mother only had an eighth grade education, Lorine was extremely proud that she was able to get her teaching degree by going to night school.

She would often tell people how many teachers there were in her family, updating the number as needed. She taught for 26 years at Butte View Elementary. Her family will miss her traditional Christmas Eve Celebration with dozens of family and friends.

Lorine and Willard had four children: Gerald Slabaugh and wife, Jill, of Nampa, Bill Slabaugh and wife, Jan, of Emmett, Vicki Terrell and husband, John, of Emmett, and Dan Slabaugh and wife, Joy, of Boise: 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Naomi Delashmutt of Virginia, sister-in-law, Dora Dillon of Washington, sister-in-law, Mary Pound of Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Willard, parents Daniel and Arline Pound, sister Marjorie Sobers, and brothers Vernon and Daniel Pound.
