Heaton, Jr., 84, passed on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Stonebridge at Montgomery in Skillman, NJ. Born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Eugene E. and Dorothy (nee Leininger) Heaton, he moved to Hopewell in 1960. Eugene attended Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pa and graduated in the Class of 1955.

He also earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He served his country with the United States Army in Korea. Eugene was a senior vice president in marketing and social research at Response Analysis Corporation and Opinion Research Corporation; both of Princeton, NJ.

He played lacrosse for the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club. Eugene was a lifelong Baltimore sports fan and loved the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Colts. He also applied his analytical prowess to the study of baseball, inventing a new batting statistic (total production average) and publishing numerous articles in baseball research journals in his retirement.

In addition, he enjoyed movies, movie music, travel, and his dogs. Besides his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Elizabeth Heaton. Eugene is survived by his wife, Melody (nee Todd) Heaton; three children, Alan Heaton and wife Penny of Boston, MA, Cliff Heaton and wife Katie of Yardley, PA, and Duane Heaton of Mims, FL; his brother, Robert B. Heaton; and four grandchildren, Aaron Heaton, Colin Heaton, Caroline Heaton and Lydia Grace Heaton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a reception at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Saturday, March 23 from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23 beginning 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Eckert officiating. Committal words and interment will follow at Neshanic Cemetery in Hillsborough, NJ.
