Obituary for Eugene Smith Eugene E. Smith was born on August 26, 1960 in Lakefield, Minnesota to Ervin and Elverta (Stumpf) Smith. He was baptized and later confirmed in 1974 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield, Minnesota. He received his education from St. Peter Lutheran School and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1978.

In 1985, Eugene was united in marriage to Georgia Anderson. This marriage was later dissolved. Twenty years ago, Eugene moved to Eagle Bend, Minnesota.

Through the years, Eugene worked many odd jobs and would help anyone in need. He enjoyed fiddling, playing his harmonica and collecting John Deere memorabilia. He would play his instruments in the park in Eagle Bend on many occasions.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield. Recently, Eugene’s health began declining and he passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the age of 57 years. Eugene is survived by his sister, MaryAnn Hasara and her husband, Michael, of Lakefield; brother-in-law, Allan Stevens of Lakefield; nephew, Ray Stevens and his wife, Sonia, of Lakefield; niece, Erin Brewington of Lakefield; cousin, Randine Croch and her husband, Terry, of Lakefield; great- nieces and nephews, Levi, Aubry, Trayton, Colten, Jessica, Jayden and Joshua; great-great-niece, Paisley and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Elverta Smith; step-father, Norman Stender; sister, Carol Stevens; and great-aunt, Johanna Berlin. Blessed be the memory of Eugene Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday April 20, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church located at 87977 MN 86, Lakefield, MN.
