Eunice Medenwald, age 91 of Belle Plaine, passed away on May 19th at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, where she has resided for over four decades. Funeral service will be at 10a.m. on Thursday, May 23rd at the Lutheran Home Chapel in Belle Plaine. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Interment will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown, WI. Eunice was born on April 17, 1928 in Springfield, WI, and was baptized on June 10, 1928. She was confirmed on July 10, 1973 and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI.

She lived at home with her parents, Otto & Adella Medenwald until moving to the Lutheran Home. All of the residents of The Lutheran Home leave a large impact on the lives of the staff members. We get to know these residents very well and they become a part of us.

One such resident was Eunice Medenwald. Eunice, like all of our residents, was special. Eunice was a very active resident of The Belle Plaine Lutheran Home.

She attended more Bingo games, musical events, and social hours than any other resident. She also most importantly attended Tuesday Bible Study with Pastor Ed and Wednesday Chapel Service. Eunice insisted that she wear a skirt every Wednesday to Chapel services.

Eunice was the “front door greeter”. When Eunice wasn’t attending the daily events, you would see her busily working on her needlepoint. Eunice made many friends at The Lutheran Home.

She had a very best friend in Carman Meyer. In fact, a few years ago, Carman & Eunice attended a mother / daughter event. In the early years at The Belle Plaine Lutheran Home, Eunice assisted Carman in the Beauty Shop, she cut grass, shoveled snow and folded towels.

Eunice liked to keep busy, and she was proud of her work. Although Carman retired some time ago, she still took time to stop by 3-4 times per week for a visit with Eunice. Many Saturday mornings, you would find Carman bringing in a donut to Eunice.

The two had an admirable friendship. It was only fitting that Carman was one of the last people to visit with Eunice on Saturday. Our Eunice passed on Sunday morning, May 19th.

Our Eunice is gone, but what wonderful memories we have. She is survived by her many long-time friends at The Belle Plaine Lutheran Home. Rest in peace dear Eunice.
