Obituary for Evelyn Helen Wright (Hunt) Evelyn Helen Wright, 99, of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Bronson Battle Creek. She was born December 10, 1919 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Fredric and Mable (Johnson) Hunt. Evelyn could play most string instruments and was an amazing musician who was invited to play in the Grand Rapids Symphony a couple years out of high school.

She married Harold Johnson in June of 1940, with that marriage ending in divorce. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL with a Degree in Education and continued her education through KCC receiving an Associate Degree in Music. Evelyn worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Ft.

Custer State Home for 10 plus years before continuing her nursing career in Kalamazoo for the State Hospital for another 10 plus years before her retirement. She married Samuel Knapper in 1945, he preceded her in death in 1961. Eleven years later she met and married Robert Wright in 1972, he preceded her in death in 1998.

Evelyn loved family gatherings, the holidays, and working on the farm. She was a very independent and practical woman who knew what hard work was. She is survived by her daughter, Aloma “Sue” (Morris) Madsen; step-children, Gerald and Geraldine; grandchildren, Denise (Erin) Case and Brian (Tammie) Madsen; great grandchildren, Celinda, Holly, Cheyenne, Cody, and Alexander; great great grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, Lucas, Zachary, and Kayleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Larine Brennan; grandson, Christopher Madsen; and step-children, Gennevieve, Gordon, Thomas, and Dwayne. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 28th at 11:00 AM at Christ The King PCA located at 328 S Jefferson St, Hastings, MI 49058. Burial was held at the Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo back in March.
