Evelyn May Navara April 04, 1930 – March 21, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Evelyn May Navara, 88, of Grinnell and formerly of Tama, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at her home due to a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Evelyn was born on April 4, 1930, on the family farm in rural Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Leo Lewis and Bessie Lucille (Dee) Kupka. She graduated from Tama High School and then attended beauty school in Cedar Rapids.

Evelyn had her own beauty shop “Evelyn’s Beauty Shop” in Tama for forty years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grinnell. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and formerly the American Legion Auxiliary.

Evelyn was a good artist, especially painting. She loved wintering in Port Aransas, TX with Bob for over twenty years. They also went to Canada in the summer months.

Survivors include her children, Paula (Larry) Stobbs of North Platte, NE, David (Kris) Navara of Marshalltown, and Bob’s children and their families; one granddaughter, Beth (Nick) Sanzone of California; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Emma, and Harper Sanzone; two sisters, Louise (Bob) Springer of Marshalltown, and Joan Harding of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her long time companion, Robert Jacobsen Jr.; one brother, Leo Kupka; and brother-in-law, Bob Harding. Memorials may be directed to the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS), 4167 20th St., Grinnell, IA 50112 or St. Francis Manor, 2021 4th Ave, Grinnell, IA 50112.
