Obituary for Evolia D. Sims Services for Evolia D. Sims, 91 , will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 Sacarbrough, Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till time of service at the church.

Mrs. Sims died November 19, 2018 in Fort Worth, TX. Evolia D. Sims (Reece) was born in Augusta, Texas on September 17, 1927 to Jessie and Josie Curvey Reece. She attended Glover Elementary and Middle Schools and earned her High School diploma from Ralph Bunche High School in 1946.

She accepted Christ at an early age. She married the love of her life, Lacy Lanier Sims on August 24, 1946. To this union one daughter was born, Lanette Elois.

Evolia loved her husband and daughter dearly and considered them both to be her greatest blessings. She attended Mary Allen College and Stephen F. Austin University before graduatingMagna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Education from Prairie View A&M University in 1970. She was an active member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and Student Life Action – Prayer Ministry on campus.

She went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin University in 1977. She was a well-respected educator, teaching at: Angelina Christian, Herty Elementary and Lufkin Intermediate in Lufkin, TX; as well as Britton and Mark Twain Elementary Schools in Oklahoma City, OK. She was a longtime faithful member ofthe First Missionary Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas where she and her husband served diligently in many capacities.

She loved homemaking and it gave her great joy to see those she loved happy. She was preceded in death by her husband: Lacy Lanier Sims; her daughter: Lanette Johnson (Sims); her grandson: Secundus K. Johnson; her parents: Jessie and Josie Curvey Reece; her brothers: Jessie Lee Reece, Joe Lewis Reece, Albert Jackson, Wiley Jackson, and Marshana Hatch; and her sisters: Stacy Bacon, Alberta Jackson, Louise Edna Jasper and Emma Lee (Bama) Jackson. She leaves to cherish her memory her grandson: Kwanza Johnson (Kimberly); her great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kendall, and Kalli Johnson all of Fort Worth, TX; sisterin-law; Maudie Reece; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
