OBITUARY F. C. “Buddy” Faries Jr. May 2, 1942 – September 11, 2018 With great sorrow, on September 11, 2018, F.C. ‘Buddy’ Faries, Jr., DVM, MS passed away in College Station, Texas. He was born on May 2, 1942 in Silsbee, Texas to the late F.C. ‘Spec’, Sr. and Rachel Faries. At an early age in the country of deep east Texas, he was able to satisfy his interest in and care for animals.

Whether there was an injured bird or puppy, he was drawn to caring for them. After graduating valedictorian of Mauriceville High School, his interest in animals would carry him to Texas A&M University, where he would receive his B.S. degree of Veterinary Science in 1964, while also serving in the Corps of Cadets. He was accepted into veterinary school after two years of undergraduate work, and completed his D.V.M. degree of Veterinary medicine in 1965.

To further his specialized expertise in veterinary parasitology, he received his M.S. degree in 1968. He purchased a veterinary clinic in Jasper, near his hometown, and began treating animals until being recruited back to Texas A&M University to teach in the College of Veterinary Medicine in parasitology and large animal departments. Twice returning to private practice, he operated a veterinary clinic in Madisonville, Texas before the offer to be a State Veterinary Specialist for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

It was from here that his accolades in extension, teaching and research blossomed, as did his positive impact throughout the state and country. After a 31 year-long career with AgriLife Extension, he retired in 2014, and was awarded the honored distinction of Professor and Extension Specialist Emeritus status. In retirement, he enjoyed time with yard work, travel, visiting family, fishing, being active at church, and drinking coffee on the porch.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Faries; sister, D’Juana Gandy; sons, F.C. ‘Clay’ 3rd, Todd, Steve, Wesley, Brian and Mark Faries; 22 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; stepchildren, Heath Martin, Genny Holmes, John Martin, and Amy Lockhart; and many dear friends and colleagues who were welcomed as family. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Delia Annette Faries Couthran and Denise Faries English. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

A Celebration Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, at Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Bryan.
