Obituary for Mrs. Fay Moody Protheroe FORT MEADE – Mrs. Fay Moody Protheroe, 88, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018 in Sarasota, FL. Fay was born September 17, 1930 in Tiger Bay, FL to her parents, Dwight L. and Eldora Johnson Moody. She attended Fort Meade schools, and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Fort Meade.

She was a Realtor for nearly thirty years in Fort Meade and in Gainesville, past president of Fort Meade, Bartow and Gainesville Woman’s Clubs and Garden Clubs, a staunch democrat and voting poll worker, and she was also a member of Florida Board of Realtors. Fay was very proud to be the first woman appointed to the Florida Farm Bureau Board of Directors, and also served on the Polk County, Florida Past Director of the State Citrus Committee of the Florida Farm Bureau. After moving to Gainesville many years ago, Fay loved to host many Florida Gator football parties at her home, which was within walking distance of the stadium.

She, and her husband Vince, were very active Florida Gator Boosters, and were always opening their home to numerous family members and friends to enjoy game days. When the guests had left after parties, and while waiting on the next Gator event, Fay was an avid reader and enjoyed reading a book, or several books, acquiring a vast knowledge of many subjects. She was preceded in death by her father, Dwight L. Moody; mother and step-father, Bud and Eldora Moody Bass; first husband, Tony Hancock; second husband, Vince Protheroe; daughter, Melody Hancock Clyatt; brother, Dan L. Moody; sister and brother-in-law, Norma Moody Aggelis and husband Jimmy.

Fay is survived by her sons, Richard Hancock and wife Francine, Dade City, FL, Shade Hancock and wife Linda, Bartow, FL; daughter, Darla K. Hancock, Sarasota, FL; brothers, Paul Bass and wife Evelyn, Iron City, GA, Roy C. Bass and wife Debbie, Pensacola, FL; sister, Loraine Harrell and husband Doug, St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law, Ruby G. Moody, Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, Chris, Jonathon, Mary, Morgan, Jeff; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many, many close friends. Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. , Monday, September 17, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 135 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. Funeral services will follow in the church sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. with Rev.
