Florence V. Schaffer, 82, Luthersburg, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Born July 9, 1936 in Chestnut Grove, PA, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Gladys V. (McKenrick) Smouse. On April 20, 1957, she married Howard E. Schaffer.

He preceded her in death on April 10, 2009. Florence graduated from Brady Township High School in 1954 and from Clarion State Teachers College in 1960. Before retiring in 1993, she taught at Penn-Grampian Elementary School (Curwensville… Read More » School District) as a first grade teacher for 32 years.

She was a member of Curwensville’s Area Education Association, PSEA, and NEA. Florence was a lifelong resident of the Luthersburg Area. She loved to read, bake, and spend time with her family, especially her beloved grandkids.

Florence is survived by her three sons, Howard “Mark” (Deborah) Schaffer, John “Mike” (Kathleen) Schaffer, and Kevin “Matt” (Tracey) Schaffer, all of Luthersburg, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Francis Haupt, Bellefonte. Friends and family will be received Friday, September 28, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. at the Adamson Funeral Chapel, Inc. with a Vigil Service taking place at 1:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Bonaventure Church in Grampian with Fr. Mark Mastrian as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Bonaventure Church, 461 Main St., Grampian, PA 16838.
