Foster Feagin (Mike) Fountain III, died in his sleep February 1, 2019. Mike was born September 14, 1944 in Greenville, MS. A memorial service will be held at Greenview Memorial Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on February 05, 2019.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bea and Foster Fountain, Jr. and his brother, Charles Bradford. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Benjamin (Kristin) and Matthew; step-grandson, Jackson Erb and grandson, Sawyer; sister, Sara Russell Tate (Edward) and nephews, Pace and Daniel Stoddard. Using the slogan “We Like Mike”, Mike was voted Coffee High’s student officer.

He graduated in 1962. He graduated from Florence State College in 1967, receiving a BS in Political Science. In 1970 Mike became a Peace Corps Volunteer, serving in the Marshall Islands, which were part of the Trust Territory to the United States at that time.

He served for 2 years; during training in Saipan he met his wife Mary. They were married in 1973. In 1974 Mike received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Tennessee.

He has been a registered architect and member of the American Institute of Architects since 1976. In 1978 he met all qualifications for the National Council of Architectural Boards Registration. While practicing architecture in Florence, he held several offices in the North Alabama AIA chapter.

During his career he worked for SKT architects. Mike loved the city of Florence and served on several boards over the years. He was instrumental in establishing the animal control shelter on College Street.

He served on the Board for Safe Place. He was also a member of the planning commission and the board of zoning and adjustment for many years. Mike received his Eagle Scout rank as a teenager and was very active in Boy Scouts as an adult.

He served as assistant scout leader to pack 75 at the First Presbyterian Church for many years. He also served on District Council meetings for Boy Scouts. For all his work with the Boy Scouts, he was awarded the Heart of Eagle award and the Silver Beaver Metal.
