Richard Houston Davy, born February 3, 1942 in Nashville TN, went to his Father’s House on January 31st. Richard graduated with honors from Avondale High School, Avondale Estates GA, in 1960 and went on to Young Harris College in GA, to get his Associates Degree in 1962. He graduated from Scarritt College on the campus of Vanderbilt University in 1966 with a BA in Social Anthropology and Masters in 1968 at Scaritt, as well .

He attended Candler School of Theology at Emory University for a couple of years before transferring to FSU to pursue a Doctorate in Counseling, graduating 1972. His career started In Atlanta as a Clinical Psychologist at the Atlanta Counseling Center for a couple of years before moving to Chicago to teach at Wheaton College and University of Chicago before moving to Florence. He enjoyed a 20-year career with Riverbend Counseling Center in Florence and took another position as Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center, Florence, for 8 years.

Since retirement he has taught a Master’s course at UNA for teachers desiring to be counselors . Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Mae and Harry Davy. He is survived by his brothers Paul Davy and wife Barbara of Jefferson GA, Pat Davy and wife Marsha of Ellijay GA And nine nieces and nephews who adored him.

Other important friends that did so much for him during his illness are Ken and Melissa Cantrell of Tuscumbia, and Phyllis Landers of Muscle Shoals. Also many thanks to the doctors and staff at North Alabama Medical Center and UAB, for their special care. A celebration of life service will be Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 2:00 pm, at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence.
