Frances Hojnacki, 102, passed away at 9:10am Thursday, April 26, 2018 in Hospice House. Frances was born on January 2, 1916 in South Bend to Stephen and Bertha (Brahlick) Hornyak. She was a school crossing guard who loved animals, children, bingo, gardening and was a wonderful cook and baker.

Frances never had a surgery during her lengthy lifetime. On August 24, 1934 in South Bend she married Eugene A. Hojnacki. He died on August 11, 1968.

Frances was also preceded in death by a son David E. Hojnacki, 5 brothers Steve Hornyak, Anton Hornyak, Frank Hornyak, Julius Hornyak and Louis Paksi and 5 sisters Alma Katona, Ann Hornyak, Esther Katona, Margaret Compton, and Freda Hornyak-Laiber. Surviving are a son Thomas (Nancy) Hojnacki of Peoria, AZ, daughter-in-law Gerri Hojnacki of Mishawaka, 5 grandchildren Sherri, Jeffrey, Scott, Mark and Beth, 5 great-grandchildren Cole, Lindsay, Mariah, Megan, and Thomas and 4 great-great-grandchildren Jacob, Braylon, Nory and Jordy, a sister Julie Paksi-Zapalski and brother John Paksi. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00pm Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue, South Bend, IN.

Family and friends may gather at 4:00pm with services beginning at 6:00pm at the funeral home. Her cremated remains will be buried in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to ASPCA.
