Frances’ Obituary Frances Leona (Laufer) Meyers of Arpan gained her Angel Wings on May 27, 2019 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital with her loving family at her side. Frances was born July 28, 1929 in Hettinger, ND to Frank and Rose (Komenda) Laufer. She was the middle child of 7 siblings.

She grew up on the family farm and graduated high school at St. Mary’s in New England, ND. On July 4, 1948 Frances met Don Meyers in Lemon, SD. Don always told the story of how they met.

He was drawn to her because of the way she rolled one pant leg up higher than the other. They married July 24, 1951, and in this union, they were blessed with 8 children; Myra, Charlotte, Franklyn, Phyllis, Cindy, Randie, Alana, and Donna. Frances was a caring, kind and compassionate person, who put everyone else’s needs above her own.

She loved her family and enjoyed nothing more than to have all her children, their spouses, and her grand children and great grandchildren around her. The more family the bigger her smile. Frances had many hobbies; her number one hobby was making creations out of wood.

You would often find her at the local craft fairs selling her creations. Frances had the touch of an angel when it came to nurturing her family as well as animals of all kinds. She held several different important jobs at the Orman Arpan Community Hall, where she loved to help put on functions such as dances, Christmas gatherings and her favorite one, Bingo.

Our mom was the rock of our family. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Myra (Rolland) Coster, Franklyn (Sharron) Meyers, Phyllis Hedlund, Cindy Bartels, Randi Stairs, Alana (Larry) Strickland, and Donna Collins; 19 Grandchildren and 38 Great grandchildren; brothers, Earl Laufer Rudy Laufer and Maurice Laufer and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; daughter, Charlotte Seaman; grand-daughter, Christy Sallani; sons-in-law, Bruce Bartels, Buddy Stairs and Ron Hedlund; siblings, Leroy Laufer and Norman Laufer; sister and brother-in-Law, Elaine and Tom Ihle; sisters-in-law, Liv and Betty Laufer. A Celebration of her life will be held Friday, June 7 at 1:00 PM at the Belle Fourche Community Hall. Burial will be at the Hope Cemetery in Newell, South Dakota beside her husband Donald.
