Obituary of Frances Johnson Frances Phillips Johnson, a long-time resident of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the age of 91. Fran was born in Bellingham, WA on July 28, 1927, the daughter of Franklin and Nellie (Duiff) Phillips. She was raised in the Lynden and Custer area and attended schools in Ferndale.

She married Rudy Johnson as a young woman and was blessed with four children. She attended and was active at Emmanuel Baptist church in Mt. Vernon for many years.

She later reconnected with a high school classmate, Lawrence Nordby, and married. They resided in Ferndale where she was a member of the United Church of Ferndale. Fran loved music and her family; she was active in many singing groups and later she and Lawrence entertained together at different senior centers.

She also enjoyed walking, her friends, and attending bible study. Fran is survived by her children Karen Mellich, Larry (Shelly) Johnson, Rudy Johnson Jr. and Karol (John) Evans; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Franklin Jr. and Leslie Phillips; and special friends Russ and Diane Esser. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, her parents, and two brothers, Harvey and Delbert Phillips.
