On May 25, 2019, Frank Robert Luck passed away at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport, New Hampshire, surrounded by family members. Frank was born November 19, 1938, in Newport. He attended Stevens High School in Claremont, as he was interested in the vocational trades and graduated from there in 1958.
That same year, he married Virginia Rae Hodgman. He lived his entire life in Newport building his own home in 1967. They have four children.
Ann O’Clair married to Douglas O’Clair of Goshen; Robert Luck married to Wendy Luck of Newport; Thomas Luck married to Kathy Luck of Charlestown; and Christine Downing married to David Downing of Goshen. He is survived by five grandchildren and their spouses: Melissa Almstrom married to Jeremy Almstrom; Matthew O’Clair married to Amy Caswell O’Clair; Terry Luck married to Diana Luck; Joshua Luck married to Rene Luck, and Patrick Colwell. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren: Benjamin and Carson Almstrom.
Frank was a machinist for over 40 years employed by Cone Blanchard in Windsor, Vermont, and later by Gloenco of Newport. He was also a commercial truck driver while employed by Gloenco. For those who knew Frank, he was a true New England spirit who believed in the value of hard work, including honest pay for honest day’s work.
He enjoyed fixing machines of all types and working with his hands. After retiring, Frank and his oldest son, Robert, continued the family business started by Frank’s father known as Lucky’s Small Engine Repair shop on Pollards Mills Road in Newport. This business existed for almost 50 years.
Frank did not really have hobbies as he was dedicated to working and providing services to others throughout his life. However, he enjoyed the outdoors through hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding his ATV. These activities were typically done in the company of family and friends.
While his children were growing up, Ginny and Frank spent many summer weekends camping in the White Mountains. Frank was also a member of the Newport Zoning Board and active member of the early days of the Twin Ridge Snowmobile Club. In his later years, Frank extended his interest to traveling with family and friends.
He traveled to Germany on several occasions to visit his youngest daughter, Christine, and her spouse who was in the military. He completed at least a dozen cruises to places such as Alaska, Panama Canal, US Virgin Islands, and Caribbean Islands. His traveling also took him to various NASCAR racetracks as he was an avid race fan having found his roots in racing through Claremont Speedway with his friends in his younger years.
The family will not be holding calling hours. Instead, a grave site ceremony for family and friends is being planned during the summer at the Mill Village Cemetery in Goshen, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, Enfield, NH 03738.
