Fred’s Obituary Fred Derril Murdock, 88, of Huntington, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Fred was born July 12, 1930 in Lawrence County, Ohio, the son of the late Clarence Elijah Murdock and Iva Jane Harmon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Peslis Murdock, his second wife, Jean M. Murdock; brother, Noel Harmon Murdock and his wife, Betty J. Murdock; sister, Donna Eileen Cobb and her husband, Oliver Cobb; brother-in-law, Allen Richardson.

Fred was a man of God and radiated the love and compassion of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved reading God’s Word and was a faithful member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. His love was strongly felt by his family, friends, and church family.

Fred will always be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit. Being young at heart, he always had such a positive attitude, love for life, warm smile, and funny sense of humor. One of his favorite hobbies was gardening and working in the yard.

He created beautiful masterpieces with flowers and landscaping. Fred loved being at home, especially sitting with Vicky for hours on the tri-level deck that he built. He enjoyed reading the Bible, history books, doing a crossword and Sudoku puzzle each day, and reading the encyclopedia for sheer enjoyment.

A good example of his love for family was his passion in researching his and Vicky’s ancestry. Fred worked for Firestone, later worked and retired with 20 years from Sears, and just recently retired as a real estate agent from Century 21 after 22 years. He had a heart of gold and always wanted the best for those he served.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Vicky M. Murdock; his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Tanya Jo and Roger Hosaflook of Parkersburg, WV and Jennifer Marie and Douglas P. Horner of Newburgh, Indiana; grandchildren, Carrie (Nate) David, Becky (Dave) Brown, Jaime (Mike) Hembree, David (Jessica) Horner, Joel Horner; great grandchildren, Jaxton David, Xandon David, Regan Brown, Ryan Brown, Austin Hembree; sister, Carol Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, 3 sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, special friends and his church family at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. All were loved dearly by Fred. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, OH, from 6pm-8pm.

Fred’s life celebration will be at 11am on Thursday, December, 27, 2018, at Hall Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A committal service will take place immediately following, at the Ridgelawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
