Fred L. Marsh, Sr., 85, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, PA. Born March 19, 1933, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Hulda (Mummert) Marsh. Fred was the loving husband of the late Sylvia J. (Kessler) Marsh who died September 6, 2016, and with whom he shared sixty-three years of marriage.

Mr. Marsh was a 1951 graduate of Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA. He earned his B.S. in Education from Shippensburg State Teacher’s College in 1955 and his Master’s in Education from Western Maryland College. He taught General Science, English, and coached various sports for fifteen years in the Hanover Public School District.

While there, he also served as the Assistant High School Principal and the Junior High School Principal. Mr. Marsh transitioned to the South Western School District in 1971, where he was involved with the inception of Emory H. Markle Intermediate School. He developed the school philosophy, curriculum, and staffing patterns.

During his time at E.H.M.I.S., he received the title of “Outstanding Middle Level Principal” from the Shippensburg Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. Mr. Marsh retired from South Western School District in 1993. Fred was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, where he served on several committees and as President of the Church Council.

He was also a member of the York County Youth Probation Board. Most of all, he loved the outdoors and spending time with his family. Fred is survived by his children, Fred L. Marsh, Jr. of Hanover, PA, Greg B. Marsh and wife, Beth of Foster City, CA, and Lori S. Rebling and husband, Tom of Hanover, PA; eight grandchildren, Allison Bogdanovic, Andrea Welch, Alissa Farrar, Adam Marsh, Katey Marsh, Emily Marsh, Erin Rebling and Drew Rebling; and four great-grandchildren, Austin, Ben, Henry and Gabriel.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. E. Robert Burkhart officiating. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM, Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s name to the Benevolent Fund at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Road, Hanover, PA 17331, or the Friends of Codorus State Park, 1066 Blooming Grove Road, Hanover, PA 17331. The Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA has been entrusted by the family with the funeral arrangements.
