Obituary for Fred Morton Libin Libin, Frederick Morton of Kalamazoo Died on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, age 93. Fred was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 4, 1924 the son of the late Harry and Rae Libin. Fred served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

As a young man he enjoyed acting on stage as an entertainer. After a year of acting in Los Angeles, he returned to Southwest Michigan where he opened Libin’s Varsity Shop in 1953. In 1954 he moved this shop to the Corklane Shopping Center location.

He has continued throughout the years making Libin’s a one of a kind clothing store catering to both men and women with quality clothing. Fred remained active in his store for over 60 years. Fred attended Western Michigan University and loved to learn.

He attended eight universities and earned a degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan. He was a member of the Congregation of Moses. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Martha (VanSickle) Libin; step-daughter, Ricanne (Bobby Edwards) Courtney; step-daughter-in-law, Lori Courtney; grandchildren, Paige Courtney, Chase Courtney, Parker Courtney, Chancellor Edwards, and Sophia Edwards; three nephews, and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his step son, David Courtney. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo MI 49009. Rabbi Harvey Spivak will officiate the service.

Friends are invited to join the family for lunch in the Langeland Reception Hall immediately following the service. Interment will take place in Jewish Riverside Cemetery following the lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 3925, Kalamazoo, MI 49003.
