PAID NOTICE TO BE RUN ON SUNDAY, APRIL 22, 2018 WITH PHOTO. PLEASE USE LOGO PROVIDED. Gary L. McIlhenny Gary L. McIlhenny, age 73, of New Smyrna Beach, died Thursday, April 19, 2018 at his home.

Born in Pueblo, Colorado to Kern and Gladys Shaben McIlhenny, Gary came to the area in 1983 from Orlando. A former Bank Branch Manager, he opened the first Barrnett Bank in New Smyrna Beach. Gary was a member of the Kiwanis Club and of the Boat and Ski Club.

Gary enjoyed fishing, boating and absolutely loved everything about New Smyrna Beach. It was a dream come true when he moved here. Gary looked forward going to the Orlando Magic games with his son and attended games since their inception in 1989.

He loved going to concerts and was a world traveler with his beloved wife. Gary enjoyed fishing with his fishing partner, his mother, in Costa Rica. He never met a stranger and always did 3 pay it forward actions each day.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Theresa; 2 daughters, Lori Thompson and Jennifer Weller (Michael Friedman) of New Smyrna Beach; son, Michael McIlhenny of Los Angeles, California; 8 grandchildren, Kayla, Jared, Joshua, Nicholas, Olivia, Michael, Nathan Thompson and Jacob Friedman; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Cheryl (Jimmy) Devine of College Park; niece, Alicia Devine of Alabama. Also survived by numerous brothers and sisters in law and their children. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Kern and Gladys McIlhenny and son-in-law, Michael Thompson.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25th at Settle-Wilder’s Chapel with the Father Seraphin Conley, T.O.R., Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, officiating. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, Greater Southeast Affiliate, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas TX 75284-0692.
