Obituary for Gary Burns Gary Michael Burns, born February 10, 1949 in Rice, Texas, was called home July 1, 2018 in Sutherland Springs, Texas at the age of 69. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Suedell (Hatley) Burns as well as a beloved friend Clay Zoeller and special Aunt, Goldie Burns, Aunt Harmolena Penny, and Uncle Curtis Penny. He is survived by his bride, Judy Jupe, that he eloped with 49 years ago in Columbus, Mexico.
They were blessed with 3 boys, Travis (Shannon), Brady, and Dustin (Heather). As much as he loved his sons he had pure, abiding and immense love being “Pappaw” to his grandchildren, Jordan, Jarred, Jessica and Taylor. There was never a time he wasn’t there for any events they participated in.
Gary is also survived by brother Keith (Doran) and special cousin, like brother, Derwood Penny (Wanda). He is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary always lived by the Cowboy Code: If it’s not yours, don’t take it.
If it’s not true, don’t say it. If it’s not right, don’t do it. Visitation will be at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, Texas on Thursday, July 5th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Services for our cowboy will be: FUNERAL SERVICE Friday, June 6, 2018 10:00am Finch Funeral Chapel, La Vernia Burial will follow at Cover Cemetery (New Sulphur Springs Rd/Knowlton Road). The family would like to express tremendous appreciation to Dr. William Atlas – the most caring, compassionate and kind-hearted physician who took exceptional care of our beloved Gary.
