He was born on February 20, 1961 to John and Rola Smith. Gary attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, loved camping with his sons and brother, and truly enjoyed being an OSU Buckeye. He is preceded in death by his mother, Rola (Long) Smith and is survived by his father, John Morton Smith, sons Sean Ewy and Scott Ewy Smith, a brother, John Douglas Smith, and sisters, Julia Ann (Don) Brogan, and Susan Marie (Kevin) Robison, along with loving aunts, uncle and cousins. A private ceremony will be held for the family, Contributions may be directed to his favorite charity which he loved participating in as a child, The Boy Scouts of America, Simon Kenton Council Office, 807 Kinnear Road, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
