Obituary for Gary Thomas Evans It is with great sadness that the family of Gary Thomas Evans, 62, announces his sudden passing on Friday, November 23, 2018. Gary is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kim (Kniivila) Evans, and his son, Ian Evans (Megan Purcell Evans) and grandson, Wyatt Evans. He is also survived by his mother, Leona Evans; sisters Margaret Evans and Marilyn Louden and brother John Evans.

Gary also had many nieces and nephews that survive him. Gary was born April 27, 1956 in Bay City Michigan. He attended Visitation School and graduated from All Saints High School.

Gary was a member of the Bay County Athletic Hall of Fame. Gary was a standout football player at Grand Valley State University, achieving All American honors. He then went on to play for the New York Jets.

Gary, the first NFL player from Grand Valley, was inducted into the GVSU Hall of Fame in 1995. He was an active member of the GVSU Football Alumni Association. A private family service was held, and a memorial service to celebrate his life is being planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the GVSU Football Alumni Association Endowment Fund, which provides special enhancement to the football program. Gary was instrumental in the creation of the endowment fund. www.
