Obituary for Gary Thomas Duke Gary Thomas Duke, 71, of Johnston City, loving husband, father, and proud Papa, passed away peacefully at 5:12 a.m., Sunday, November 25, 2018 at his family home with his loving family by his side. Gary was born June 6, 1947 in Paris, Tennessee to Thomas and Mary Magaline (Stamps) Duke. He was the oldest of ten sibling, who knew him as “Big Bubba”.

Gary was an avid reader and gardener, his most enjoyed moments were spent with his grandchildren. He married Nancee Machelle Poff on March 27, 1978 in Midland, TX. Together they have shared 40 years of marriage.

Gary was retired having been employed by Marion Memorial Hospital and later with McDonalds. Gary is survived by his wife, Nancee of Johnston City; two children, Christopher Duke of Johnston City, Wendy (Shawn) Smith of Springfield; daughter-in-love, Brenda Mathis of Pana; six grandchildren, Brenna and Thomas Duke of Pana, Avery, Campbell, Reagan and Tucker Smith of Springfield; five brothers, Larry (Roni) Duke, Bobby Eudy, Eddie (Lisa) Eudy, Johnny (Debbie) Eudy, Jim Eudy, and James “Bubba” (Nina) Elkins and sister, Cindy (Joe) Gholson; sister-in-law, Lonnie Lindsey; special niece, Elizabeth (Zach) Williams and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie Elkins and step-father, James Elkins; sister, Susie Miller and brother, Melvin Duke.

Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with his son-in-law, Shawn Smith officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday at Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, TN.
