Obituary for Gene Shipman Carroll Gene Shipman, 80, of Corsicana, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 26th, 2018 at Trisun Care Center. He was born February 15, 1938 in Bloomfield, MO to Helen and Curtis Shipman. Gene was in the USAF and assigned to the Civil Engineering Squadron in Plattsburgh, NY in support of Strategic Air Command (SAC) – where he met the love of his life, Sandy.

After serving his country, he made a career as a Heavy Equipment Operator who operated large earth moving equipment, primarily specializing in operating large/heavy truck, crawler and tall tower cranes across Florida and Texas. He has helped construct many of the high rises and buildings you may see in Miami, Pompano Beach and Boca Raton, Florida and even some that make up the Dallas and Ft. Worth sky lines.

He was a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Plantation, Florida and was also a Tank Crew Member in the US Army Reserve. Gene and his wife Sandy worked maintenance and upkeep over the course of several years for the Navarro County Youth Expo Facility. He retired from the City of Corsicana Public Works as a Crew Supervisor, as well as from the NCSO where he worked as a facility and vehicle maintenance man.

His handy man and carpentry skills were hard to top and hobbies included beautiful leather work such as Bible covers, belts and knife holsters, beautiful jewelry made from scrap stainless steel pipe with intricate designs and woodworking was a calling and passion for years. If you could show a picture of what you desired or could describe it in just a few words, plans were drawn and the item came to be. He has made many bookshelves, desks, drawing tables, cabinets, stools, tables and more.

Nothing was ever more important than providing for, being there for, loving and setting a wonderful example for his family. He never hesitated to make time for anyone who needed a helping hand . He was known for his joking, ribbing and his infectious, bright smile and you were a better person for having known him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and wife Sandy. He is survived by his two children, Curt Shipman and wife D’Lee, daughter Mandy Tanner and Husband Elmer, grandchildren J.C. Shipman, Bobby Shipman, Wyatt Shipman, Allison Tanner and Dustin Tanner and special angel and friend, Kelly Bell. All of whom loved him dearly and will miss him daily.

Instead of flowers and plants, the family asks that you bloom where you are planted. Be the change you wish to see in this world. Be kind, compassionate and give to others.

Donate or give to a reputable charity that you know would have been near and dear to his heart or give something near and dear to your own.
