Gene’s Obituary Gene W. Turner, 90, of Independence, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, February 6, 2019. He was born January 2, 1929 in Stark City, Missouri to John Riley and Sarah Frances (Bowman) Turner. As a young boy, he attended rural schools near his home in the rural Stark City area including Midway and Jolly schools and later Midway High School.

On August 21, 1948, he and Dovie Christine Cargile were married in Neosho, Missouri. Following marriage, the couple lived in the Granby, Missouri area before moving in 1957 to Wichita where he worked for Coleman Company, Inc. for 27 years until retiring in 1991. In 2007, they relocated to Parsons.

He then moved to Independence to be near his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Christine Turner, on April 13, 2009. He later married Phyllis Stanbery.

She passed away in November of 2018. Through the years, he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and a member of the local church board. He was currently a member of the Cherryvale Bible Holiness Church.

Gene loved his collectibles and cars were his lifelong joy. He also enjoyed woodworking, church camp meetings, and revivals. Survivors include: Two Daughters –Willa Jean Moore and her husband, Mark, of Wichita, KS Della Jo Schaper and her husband, Albert, of Independence, KS Three Grandchildren – Kyle Schaper and his wife, Mandy, of Parsons, KS Keith Schaper and his wife, Crystal, of Jalapa, Guatemala Bethany Tun and her husband, Dorian, of Bartlesville, OK Eleven Great-Grandchildren – Abigail, Hailey, Rachel, Ava, Isaiah, Elijah, Kristyn, Owen, Megan, Jeren, Ashlyn, and great-granddaughter, Giselle, due in June.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Leo Turner, and twins, John Roy and Ray Francis Turner. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Cherryvale Bible Holiness Church. Burial will be in Mt.

Hope Cemetery in Independence. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorials are suggested to the Independence Bible School or the Bible Holiness Church General Camp Fund.
