Beloved husband of Shirley Mahler Kleinpeter for 60 years and 8 months. Son of the late George C. Kleinpeter, Sr. and Emelda Delery Kleinpeter.
Devoted father of Christi Lynn Kleinpeter Giardina (husband, John W. “Bill” Giardina, Jr.), Karen Kleinpeter Trovato (husband, James “Derek” Trovato), and Katherine Kleinpeter Raymond, Ph.D. (husband, Sidney “Beau” Raymond, M.D.). Grandfather of Megan Elise Giardina, Adam Charles Cerise, M.D. (wife, Maggie), Kelly Giardina Johnson, Pharm.D. (husband, Shelby), Sydney Caroline Raymond, Charlotte Elizabeth Raymond, and Mary Katherine Grace Raymond. Great Grandfather of Wyatt Charles Johnson and Clara Mendia Cerise.
Brother of Wayne Kleinpeter (wife, Jena) and the late Albert Kleinpeter (survived by wife, Catherine) and Uncle George to many. In addition to his faith and family, which were his greatest joys, George was passionate about engineering and civic engagement. His indelible mark is seen through the projects of the firm he co-owned and served for 29 years as President of, Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc., and through his numerous community efforts.
A licensed professional engineer, George was honored with the Society of Tulane Engineering Alumnus of the Year Award and the American Society of Civil Engineers Lifetime Achievement Award. He served as a board member for St. John Lutheran School, St. Mary’s Dominican High School, and as President of the American Society of Civil Engineers Louisiana Chapter, the American Public Works Association, the Society of Tulane Engineers, and St. John Lutheran Church. He is Director Emeritus of the Delgado Foundation Board of Directors, where an Endowed Two-Year Student Scholarship has been established in his name.
George is a graduate of St. Joseph Grammar School, Jesuit High School, and the Tulane University School of Engineering for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. He is an emeritus member of the School of Science and Engineering Board for Tulane, where Burk-Kleinpeter supports an Endowed Early Career Professorship. Friends and family remember George as a beautiful and generous soul, whose faith was inspiring, work ethic unparalleled, and capacity to love immense.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. John Lutheran Church, 3937 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 12 noon. Interment in Hook and Ladder Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
