George Cahoon passed away from natural causes on July 19, 2018, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, four days short of his 92nd birthday. George Dexter Cahoon, Jr., the son of George D. Cahoon and Madine (Porter) Cahoon, was born July 23, 1926, at the family farm in Walden, Vermont, which was situated on what is now called Cahoon Farm Road. He attended graded school in Walden and high school in Danville, graduating in 1944.

He married his high school sweetheart, June Amy Parker, on August 3, 1947, a union that lasted more than 70 years. He built a house for his family in the Pumpkin Hill area of Danville, where they lived from 1954 until the present. George worked most of his life in the building trades, doing carpentry, plumbing and electrical work, and building several houses.

He was a long-time deacon and member of the choir at the Danville Congregational Church. For many years he was Town Grand Juror for the town of Danville. He was a successful amateur photographer, and his photos have appeared in Vermont Life magazine, in calendars, and have been featured in local exhibits.

He was predeceased by his wife June, his sisters Margery Chickering and Ruth Smith, his brother Paul, and a son Keith. He is survived by his sister Nancy Hale of Lyndonville; sons Scott of St. Johnsbury, Barry and partner Alicia Hingston of Danville, and Myles and wife Merja of Fairfax; and grandson Kevin of South Burlington. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Danville.
