Obituary for George Hoelaars George Jan Hoelaars, age 84, of Royal Oak, passed away June 15, 2018. Son of Gerritt Hoelaars and Florence Guliford Hoelaars. Survived by his loving wife of 62 yrs, Joan Arlene Caine Hoelaars; daughters Lynn Hoelaars Popa, Lisa Hoelaars (Patrick Costigan), Lenore Hoelaars, Lenore Hoelaars, and granddaughter Jodi Hoelaars Jordano (daughter of Lenore).

George went through the Ferndale school system and graduated from Lincoln High School in Jan 1952. He graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Business Adminstration. He retired from General Motors in 1991.

George was a great afficianado of old cars. He inherited a 1938 Chrysler Royal from his great uncle while still in high school. He had a full restoration done in 2002.

He enjoyed displaying his car in car shows and won a best of class at Concours D’Elegance. George was a great photographer and had an extensive collection of antique cameras. George was a member of Royal Oak First United Methodist Church, The Royal Oak Historical Society, The Henry Ford and Detroit Institute of Arts.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church of Royal Oak, WRCI Radio, WUOM Radio, and The Henry Ford.
