OBITUARY George Thompson Reynolds III October 29, 1934 – January 2, 2019 George Thompson Reynolds, III, passed away on January 2, 2019, at the age of 84. Born on October 29, 1934, in Dallas, Texas, he was the oldest son of Margaret Joseph Dunn of Houston, Texas, and George Thompson Reynolds Jr. of Dallas, Texas, who predeceased him. He was a lifelong resident of Highland Park, where he graduated from Highland Park High School in 1953 as class favorite and captain of both the football and track teams.

He attended Southern Methodist University so he could be close to his family and help raise his younger siblings after the death of their father. There, he was a Southwest Conference Champion swimmer and member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon graduation with a business degree, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Tokyo, Japan.

He flew missions throughout the Pacific as a navigator on a C-124 Globemaster, eventually earning the rank of Captain. Upon honorable discharge, George ventured into the outdoor advertising business where he met HL “Butch” Adams Jr., who introduced him to his little sister and the love of his life, Jocelyn Ann “Sissy” Adams. They were married on December 18, 1965.

Together, they grew a family and a business that ended up becoming the largest independent outdoor advertising company in Texas. George served as President of both the Dallas Outdoor Advertising Association and the Outdoor Advertising Association of Texas in a pivotal time for the industry. During the same period, he served as Chairman of the Byron Nelson Classic PGA Tournament where he achieved record revenues for his beloved Salemanship Club supporting emotional health for kids and families.

George was also very involved with Church of the Incarnation and SMU. As Chairman of the GTE-SMU Athletic Forum, he cofounded the Doak Walker Running Back Award. He was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from SMU in addition to the Silver Anniversary Mustang Award from the SMU Letterman’s Association.

George served on countless committees and boards in Dallas, with tenure as Town Councilman of the Town of Highland Park being one of his favorites. He was honored with the Highland Park ISD Distinguished Alumni Award for his lifelong service to others. He loved to spend time with his family and friends at his ranch in Coryell County, Texas.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was always gathering people together to share in his love for the outdoors. George was a lifelong athlete with football being his favorite sport. He coached each of his sons’ YMCA six man football teams and adored watching his grandchildrens sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Sissy, of 53 years, sons George Thompson “Tommy” Reynolds IV (Michele), Scott Adams Reynolds (Katie) and Mark Lindsey Reynolds, brother Peter Reynolds (Jeanie), sister Jane Hopkins (Morton) and brother Joseph Reynolds (Gloria), grandchildren Austin Thompson Reynolds, Courtney Michele Reynolds, George Wadlington Reynolds, Marshall Adams Reynolds, William Bennett Reynolds, Garrett James Reynolds, Catherine Baxley Reynolds, Caroline Lindsey Reynolds and Lucian Calhoun Reynolds and his faithful assistant Sandra Disbrow. Memorial service on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Ave. , Dallas, Texas, with a reception following at the church.
