George Tunny Blackmon, 90, resident of 117 Greenside Dr., widower of Helen Sanford Blackmon, died July 14, 2018 at his home. Born in Orangeburg, September 22, 1927, he was a son of the late Ervin and Mattie Hutto Blackmon. He was a graduate of Willow Consolidated High School, Norway, SC (Orangeburg County) and retired as a supervisor from Greenwood Packing Plant.

Mr. Blackmon was also a member of the Greenwood Lions Club and was dedicated to and loved the senior’s golf group at Hunter’s Creek Plantation.

Mr. Blackmon was the last member of his immediate family. Surviving are a daughter, Cathey Stone and husband Charles of Greenwood; two sons, Barry Blackmon and wife Connie and Jackie Blackmon and wife Tammy all of Bonneau; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Blackmon was predeceased by a grandson, Jackie O’Neal Blackmon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 PM Tuesday at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Hal Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Grant Stone, Matt Stillinger, Bayr Blackmon, Zach Calhoun, Zach Davis and Brandon Cornwell. Honorary escort will be Smiley Bryant and Alvin Allison. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 PM Tuesday.

The family is at the home on Greenside Dr. and will receive friends at the church from 1 to 3 Tuesday afternoon. Memorials may be made to West Side Baptist Church Open Door Building Fund, PO Box 216, Greenwood, SC 29648 or to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 326 Montague Ave. , Greenwood, SC 29649.
