George A. Whitcomb, 83 of Franconia, NH passed away at home with his family at his side on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 after a period of declining health. He was born in Littleton, June 3, 1935 a son to Ion S. and Margret T. Whitcomb. He grew up in Easton, NH and resided in Franconia, NH most of his life.

George, a graduate of Dow Academy in Franconia, class of 1953, married Katherine Cooley on February 10, 1967, in Franconia, NH. He served his state and country as a Sergeant in the NH National Guard, Woodsville, NH Unit. He was a member of the Franconia Fire Department for over 50 years, a Forest Fire Warden for the Town of Franconia, ending that career being awarded Forest Fire Warden Emeritus for the State of NH in 2015.

George worked for State of NH DOT, a carpenter, a mechanic, at The Mount Washington Hotel in the maintenance department, as well as an employee of Lafayette Regional School District. George is survived by his wife of 51 years Katherine Cooley Whitcomb, children Stephen D. Whitcomb, his spouse Suzanne, of Easton, NH, step-daughter, Linda G. Diaz and her spouse William, of Tallahassee, FL, step-daughter Lauri A. Eschenbrenner, and her spouse Joseph, of Mason, NH, grandchildren, Kathryn, Kristie, Karey, Kyle, Tyler, Zachary, Tiffany, Christopher and great-grandchildren, Noah, Mia, Dominic, Zoe, Logan, Isabella, Georgia, Haley, Charlotte, Adoree and niece Joy Thompson.
