George Platt died peacefully at home on July 19, 2018. He was born on November 5, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York and grew up during the roaring twenties and Great Depression. George received a scholarship to attend City College of New York’s School of Engineering and was in his first year when Pearl Harbor was attacked.

He left school to enlist in the Army Air Corps and became a navigator flying B-24 bombers for the 380th Bombardment Group in WWII. He completed 38 missions in the Pacific theater, for which he received a Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart, among other awards. In 1947, George returned to school at Tulsa University and earned both a Bachelor and Masters of Science in Petroleum Engineering.

He later founded Texas International Petroleum Company, which grew to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1982, he retired and started a family real estate development company and an oil well servicing company active in the Gulf of Mexico. He survived every boom and bust for over 50 years, sometimes with the help of bankers, but most times without it.

George is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda, five children, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He cultivated an extended circle of friends and cherished each one. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 10am at Smith & Kernke North May Chapel.
