Gerald S. Berrier, age 86, Jefferson, died Tuesday morning in the Hospice Unit at ACMC after being admitted there on Monday. He was born October 21, 1932 in Denmark Twp. , the son of the late M. Clarence “Curly” & Evelyn (Shorts) Berrier and was a lifetime Jefferson area resident, winter in Bradenton, FL for many years.
He was married to Beverly A. Stoll on January 22, 1955 in Jefferson. Gerald was a 40-year employee of Penny Dock & Transport, retiring in 1993. Mr. Berrier had many interests, involvement and memberships which include the Jefferson United Methodist Church, life member of Teamsters Local #377, the Conservation Club, the Rod & Reel Club, Independent Order of Oddfellow Lodge, Jefferson Volunteer Fire Dept.
where he was an EMT and served as past president, loved sports; baseball, basketball & football, past president of the Jefferson Area Little League, N. E. Ohio Umpire’ Assoc. , member and vice-president of the Pittsburgh Pirates Booster Club in Bradenton, maintained Memorial Field for the Jefferson Boosters, loved hunting and fishing, especially with his grandchildren, the Coon Hunter’s Assoc. of Ashtabula Co., served on the Board of Directors of K&K Mobile Home Park in Bradenton, enjoyed doing hook latch rugs, traveling and singing “Old McDonald with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly A. Berrier, three children, Robin R. (Michael) Czayka of Jefferson, Randall R. Berrier of Middlefield, Richard R. Berrier of Jefferson; five grandchildren, David (Kim Phillips) Czayka, Alison (Jake) Balsiger, Alex (Natalie Amato) Czayka, Josh & Mitch Berrier; two great-grandchildren, Macyn & Bryn Balsiger; two sisters, Darla M. Carroll of Schererville, IN, Charlene (Clair) Woodburn of Ashtabula and a brother, Ron Berrier of Jefferson. An infant brother, Charles also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with the Rev.
Douglas Winner of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM prior to the service. The family request memorial contributions be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH 44047 or the Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Rd.
