OBITUARY Gilbert J. Patterson May 20, 1925 – December 4, 2018 Gilbert J. Patterson, II, age 93, of Scituate passed away on the morning of December 4, 2018 peacefully at home. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (MacDonald) Patterson, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. Born and raised in Scituate, he was one of 7 children of the late Gilbert J. Sr. and Elizabeth (Stark) Patterson.

He was a 1943 graduate of Scituate High School and went on to earn an Associate Degree in 1976 and a Bachelor of Science Degree with honor in 1977 from Northeastern University. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Radioman on the USS Hyades and earned several decorations including a WWII Victory Medal. Upon his return from the war, he joined the Massachusetts Capitol Police and subsequently served the Scituate Police Department, retiring as the town’s Chief of Police after a 31 year career in law enforcement.

He then returned to the sea to follow his passion as a lobster fisherman aboard his boat, the Two Pats out of Scituate Harbor. Devoted father of Douglas Patterson and Jill of Scituate, Richard Patterson and Pamela of Scituate, Robert Patterson and Patricia of Marshfield, Patricia Patterson and William Ferry of FL, Thomas Patterson and Catherine Baggs of Scituate, James Patterson and Michelle of Scituate, Edward Patterson of Scituate and the late Gilbert J. Patterson, III. Cherished Gramps of Katie, Shawn, Matthew, Jeffrey, Robert, Rachel, Jamie, Shelby, Tucker, Sophie and Kristen and Great Gramps of Logan, Shawn, Owen, Tessa, Kendall and Anthony.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 3-7 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens’ Research Hospital.
